Signs It’s Time to Consider Invisalign

While orthodontic problems are typically diagnosed and treated in childhood, many people still have them later in life. Yet, older teenagers and adults often resist getting braces for social and professional reasons.

That’s where Invisalign comes in. Clear aligner trays make it possible to get the orthodontic care you need without sacrificing your quality of life, so it’s no surprise that 14 million people—including more than 3 million teens—have used it.

Our dental team at Manhasset Dental Arts offers Invisalign, as well as a range of general, cosmetic, and emergency dental services for the whole family. Is it time for you to consider Invisalign? Here’s how to tell.

Signs it’s time to consider Invisalign

Invisalign can correct common orthodontic problems like an overbite, underbite, or crooked teeth. Sometimes, orthodontic problems aren’t obvious to the naked eye, but you may have noticed that your teeth don’t align when you bite down and close your mouth.

Teeth can also shift over time if you’ve had dental work or lost teeth, so it’s possible that your bite has changed. You can also choose to get Invisalign for cosmetic purposes, to make your teeth straighter and more symmetrical.

If you’re experiencing any symptoms like pain or discomfort with your teeth or jaw, contact us to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. If it’s been more than six months since your last appointment, start by scheduling a dental exam and cleaning to rule out any oral health issues like cavities and gum disease.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign is available for teenagers and adults. If you have any underlying oral health issues like a cavity or gingivitis, your dentist may recommend treating them first depending on your oral health and circumstances.

Invisalign is generally a good option to treat issues like an overbite, underbite, crowded teeth, and gaps. It cannot treat certain orthodontic issues, however.

Additionally, some of the benefits that make Invisalign attractive to adults and teenagers also require more responsibility and commitment for the treatment to be effective. Since the trays are removable, they provide more flexibility so that you can continue to eat your favorite foods and keep up with your regular oral hygiene routine. However, they must be worn for 22 hours per day in order to be effective.

Following instructions to the letter is essential for you to get the best outcome from Invisalign. At your consultation, our team will perform a comprehensive evaluation and recommend the best orthodontic treatment for your oral health care needs, goals, and lifestyle.
