Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin restorations made of composite resin or porcelain. They can be created to restore the shape, size, or color of your teeth. Veneers are the perfect solution to fix chips, hide yellow teeth, and more.

Because they bond to your teeth, veneers are an irreversible treatment. While thin, they are strong enough to protect the surface of your teeth from damage and prevent concerns like chips and cracks from worsening.

What are the benefits of veneers?

Veneers may work best for you if you have one or more of the following dental problems:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Yellow teeth or tooth discoloration
  • A chipped tooth
  • A broken tooth
  • Teeth worn by grinding
  • Large tooth gaps
  • Misshapen teeth

If you simply want a Hollywood smile that looks white, straight, and uniform, veneers may be right for you.

How are veneers placed?

The veneer process typically takes at least two separate visits. During the first, your dentist cleans the tooth you want to treat and prepares it for the veneer. Your dentist must remove a small amount of enamel from your tooth to make room for the veneer, so it won’t look bulky or unnatural.

At this first appointment, your dentist also takes impressions of your tooth to serve as an accurate model for the veneer. Before you leave the office, you’ll be fitted for a temporary veneer.

Once the lab sends Manhasset Dental Arts your new veneer — about two weeks later — you can return to the office to have it placed. During this visit, your dentist replaces the temporary restoration with your custom-made veneer.

When you arrive for your second visit, your dentist cleans and polishes your tooth before etching it to make it easier for the veneer to bond. Your dentist then adds an adhesive to your tooth and places the veneer. After making minor adjustments to ensure the veneer looks as natural and polished as possible, your dentist cements it in place.

Veneers are the easiest way to achieve the smile of your dreams without invasive dental surgery. To find out if veneers can help improve your smile, call Manhasset Dental Arts or schedule an appointment online.
